Lead Data Engineer

Take our flagship data model of the Danish business economy from research prototype to production, and build the next generations of it. For the right person, this position offers a route to the CTO role and equity-based compensation.

Venture Insights is a data-as-a-service company in Copenhagen. We collect public administrative data and other sources, and build one consistent model that explains every part of the Danish private economy. The model identifies startups and scaleups, founder teams, investors, investment rounds and acquisitions, and it tracks the outcomes. Our technology builds on a unique model of the business economy developed in university research.

Where international platforms assemble announced deals and estimates, and data vendors resell what the registers already state, our model orchestrates complex data across every network relationship and across time, so that ownership, capital and control are resolved exactly, for the whole population and at any point in its history. On that model we build data products for the major institutions and capital allocators: pension funds, foundations, venture and private equity funds, commercial banks, public authorities and ecosystem organisations. We are only getting started.

Our clients include the Danish Business Authority (Erhvervsstyrelsen), the Confederation of Danish Industry (Dansk Industri), the Danish Export and Investment Fund (EIFO), Copenhagen Business School (CBS CSE), Copenhagen Fintech and TechBBQ, where we are showcasing our business this year. We are part of the Beyond Beta accelerator programme, and we work from the Copenhagen Fintech Lab on the canal in Christianshavn.

The role

Bifrost, our flagship model, is built and proven as a research prototype. It resolves millions of ownership relations across the full company population and its entire history. You hold the technical responsibility for the model and the products built on it, and you lead the transition to production. You report to the CEO, who holds a Ph.D. in finance from Copenhagen Business School and served as Special Adviser at the Danish Business Authority.

  • Technical ownership of the data model and the pipelines that produce it.
  • The production architecture: automation, databases, documentation and quality assurance.
  • Development of the next generations of the model, and its extension to new data domains and to the other Scandinavian markets.
  • AI and machine learning for data collection and enrichment from unstructured sources.
  • Collaboration with UI development on the platform.
  • Specification and delivery of client projects.
  • Recruitment and leadership of the data team as it grows.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in data science, data engineering, computer science or mathematics.
  • At least 5 years in production data engineering, including responsibility for a small team.
  • Advanced Python and SQL, and experience designing production databases.
  • Complex relational data modelling and entity resolution on large data.
  • Experience with administrative or register data, business and financial data, or AI applied to unstructured text.
  • A precise and thorough approach to data work. Our figures are used in decisions with real consequences.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and stamina. You take ownership of a problem and see it through.
  • Fluency in Danish or another Scandinavian language, and working on-site in Copenhagen.

We offer a competitive salary, and for the right profile a route to equity-based compensation. You will work in a dynamic and fast-growing organisation at the intersection of finance research, AI models and high-stakes decision-making in the startup ecosystem. This is a full-time position at our office in Copenhagen. We do not work with recruitment agencies, and we are not looking for remote or fractional arrangements.

Your application must contain a short cover letter, your CV and your academic diploma. Applications are read as they arrive, and the process is a first conversation, a technical discussion of your own work, and a meeting with the team.

Send your application to [email protected]. Questions: Jacek Piosik, CEO.
